Dukadam started his career at Konstrukturul Academy in Arad, after which he started playing for UTA in the second division of the country – in two seasons he impressed with his game and moved to Steaua.

Since 1982, Dukadam has been the main goalkeeper of the club from Bucharest. He became the champion of Romania twice.

The 1985/86 season was the brightest in Helmut’s career — Steaua won the Champions League after Dukadam parried four penalties from Barcelona players in the final. Due to this, Helmut is the only Romanian who recorded his name in the Guinness Book of Records.

Unfortunately, after the end of the season, Dukadam left Steaua due to a rare blood disease, temporarily ending his career.

Dukadam returned to football three years later, overcoming illness, playing for Vagonul in the second division of Romania – he retired after two seasons.
