The country’s football federation will try to avoid punishment.

On its official website, the Football Federation of Kosovo made a detailed comment on recent UEFA decisions regarding the unfinished match between Romania and Kosovo in the fifth round of the 2024/25 Nations League group stage.

UEFA decided to punish both sides of the conflict. The guests received a technical defeat, while the hosts of the field have to play their next home match without fans.

“This is a decision for the FFC and the players of our national team [покарати Румунію] is a confirmation of the validity of our actions against racist chants and provocative political messages against Kosovo. This decision fully vindicates our actions, and we are proud that our national team made the right assessment when they decided to leave the field in protest against these racist chants, provocative political messages and other discriminatory behavior. This decision confirms that Kosovo has set a new standard for protecting dignity and respect in international football.

However, we do not agree with the decision to declare the result 3:0 in favor of Romania. Therefore, the FFK will file an appeal to challenge this case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, continuing to defend the rights of our national team.

The FFK has already submitted a formal request for the full UEFA decision in order to have full access to all the details and legal reasoning that led to the decision. We will then use all possible appeal options at our disposal to prevent the withdrawal of points [мінус один заліковий бал за нічию 0:0]which does not reflect fairness and our efforts to protect sports values.

This case is not just a challenge for our football, but a fight against racism and discrimination in all its forms. Our players have shown extraordinary courage and exemplary behavior by refusing to play in unworthy conditions, and this decision by UEFA is a clear indication that hate speech, racism and provocative political messages have no place in football.

The FFC remains committed to protecting the interests of our players and our sporting community, setting new standards of integrity and respect in sport. We thank everyone who supported us along the way and invite all football fans to join us in this battle for equality and dignity,” the organization said.

We will remind you that the technical defeat did not affect Nand the tournament position in group C2. Romania went straight into Division B, while Kosovo earned a place in the promotion play-offs.
