YouTube will limit the display of violent scenes from video games to children under 18 / ua.depositphotos.comStarting November 17, YouTube will begin restricting access to videos with violent scenes from video games. Now videos with torture or mass violence against civilians can be watched only by users aged 18 and over who have logged in to the account.
As reported by The Verge, the platform will take into account the realism, close-up and length of the episode. Short segments without an emphasis on violence will not affect, but scenes where brutality is shown in detail or takes a key role will fall under the age filter.
It is not yet clear how exactly YouTube will apply the rules to games like GTA, where violence is part of the gameplay. Before that, the company did not limit such content, considering it fictional.
In addition, the restrictions will also affect games of the “social casino” genre – projects without real bets, but with gambling mechanics. Now, too, only adult users can promote and demonstrate them.
YouTube will also ban advertising and mentions of online casinos not certified by Google, and even games with digital items that have a monetary value, such as skins or NFTs, will fall under the new rules.
Creators will have to crop, blur, or tag their videos themselves, or YouTube may remove them or age-restrict them.
To confirm age, Google account data is used, and in a number of countries – official documents. At the same time, YouTube already uses AI to detect minors.
