The F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter with AIM-174B rocket was shown on the annual show at the Marine Corps in the Japanese city of Ivakuni.

The demonstration is considered as a “China signal” and as a symbol of US military capabilities in the Indo-Pacific.

The growing voltage in the Indo-Pacific region increases the significance of AIM-174B. The US is trying to resist the new Chinese strategy, supported by modern fighters with long -range missiles.

AIM-174B rocket-UNIAN referenceEarlier, we have already talked about AIM-174B rocket. It is about Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) Aviation version, which is intended for use by the US Navy ships. It is also known as the RIM-174 Standard Extended Range Active Missile (Eram).

The AIM-174B Aviation version is expected to affect the targets at least 240 km. For comparison, the range of the “American” air-air-air-AMRAAM-is up to 160 km (some sources said about 180 km).

At the same time, the above-mentioned Chinese PL-15 missile in the export version (PL-15E) has a range of 145 km. The non-export version can allegedly affect the targets at a range of 200-300 km.
