The skeletonist is massively thanked for his dignity and principled position.
Vladyslav – the first Ukrainian skeleton athlete who obtained an Olympic license / UNIAN collage / photo instagram/heraskevychvladyslavUkraine will be outraged by the International Olympic Committee’s decision to ban skeleton athlete Vladyslav Geraskevych from performing at the 2026 Zivomy Olympic Games.
UNIAN gathered the reactions of stars and media people who spoke about the worthy act of the athlete, who wore a “memory helmet” with photos of dead Ukrainian athletes, and also criticized the IOC.
The fencer Olga Kharlan published on her Instagram blog a picture of Geraskevich in a helmet, noting that with his position he demonstrated dignity and respect for colleagues who will never be able to participate in competitions again:
“I know what it’s like when decisions are made against conscience, when you feel powerless, but you still have to hold your head high. And that’s why your courage to speak out means a lot. Decisions like this are incredibly painful. Remembrance is not a political position. It’s humanity. It’s respect for those who paid the ultimate price. We’re with you.”
Host and journalist Masha Efrosinina reposted the post about the disqualification, briefly captioning it as follows: “Shame on you, International Olympic Committee.”
Chef and restaurateur Olga Martynovska wrote that the world has become very complicated. “Sometimes I think we can scream and scream and they still won’t hear what’s really going on,” added the star of the “MasterChef” show.
TV presenter Andriy Bednyakov also spoke strongly about the committee’s decision. “IOC. You can buy all of them. But not everyone. But all of them. Thank you for your position,” he wrote.
Singer Tina Karol called Vladyslav Geraskevych a real role model, stressing that Ukrainians are proud of him.
Svyatoslav Vakarchuk also reposted the news about the ban from the IOC and wrote that he respects the action of the skeleton athlete. “When a person has principles, he always remains strong,” the singer added.
People’s artist Jamala noted that it is always scary to express one’s voice, so she is very grateful to Vladyslav for his courage.
As UNIAN reported, Vladyslav Geraskevych disagrees with the IOC’s decision and is ready to appeal it. The athlete stated that he did not violate any rules, but only defended the interests of Ukraine and the memory of the deceased athletes.
