Modern players want to see more stories about friendship / photo – Larian StudiosThe game industry notices the trend: modern teenagers are more interested in friendship stories than romance and sex.

The former TV producer was spoken at Dice conference, and now the head of the Sharon Tal Igado Game Studio and the Roblox Vice -President of Tami Bumik’s partnerships and digital security issues. They presented research and shared their observations that it is now concerned about teenagers.

The first and perhaps the most important thing – teenagers are alone. According to one of the studies, 73% of young people aged 16 to 24 are periodically or constantly felt alone. Many also report a sense of sadness and hopelessness. Baumik associates this with many factors: from the state of the world and climatic changes to the influence of social networks.

However, not everything is so gloomy. According to the UCLA scientists and narrators, modern teenagers are far from the image of the surface-dependent surface meadows, which are often imagined. They are important safety, kindness, acceptance, physical activity, friendship and even spiritual connection.

At the same time, the interest in romantic relationships in adolescents is significantly reduced: “Frankly, I begin to worry about the demography of the future, because these children are simply not interested in romance,” – joked (or not at all).

The UCLA Teens and Screens 2024 research showed that 21 possible romantic and/or sex preferences took only 15th place. Instead, content without sex and romance was in 8th place, and friendship and social groups-in the 5th.

This trend is called “Nomans” (from English No Romance – the lack of romance), and it is only gaining momentum. In 2023, 51.5% of teenagers wanted to see the focus of friendship in content, and in 2024 this figure increased to 63.5%. The proportion of those who think that sex and sexual content are not needed to promote the plot in cinema and series have also increased from 47.5% to 62.4%.

It is worth noting that video games have always had less romance and sexual content than other media. In 2007, even modest scenes in Mass Effect caused a scandal, and games with open sexual elements, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, began to appear only in recent years.
