As reported by the military portal Defense Express, these drones operate on the “shoot and forget” principle. They are completely autonomous, the operator just needs to point the camera at the target, after which capture is carried out, and “Elka” flies to its target at a speed of up to 200 km/h.

However, it is capable of intercepting only drones flying at a speed of up to 60 km/h. Therefore, its main goal is large drones of the “Baba Yaga” type and reconnaissance UAVs.

“Impuls-Air Defense” was created on the basis of the “Impuls-M” NRC. Two “Elka” interceptors are installed from above to two launchers (PUs) each.

At the same time, experts write, it seems that there are two launch options at once. The first – “open” – was shown even earlier. It can rotate and has a camera for detection and capture.

The second is a “closed” option, where each “Christmas tree” is placed in its own container. Probably to protect against debris, weather and environment. Currently, this is already the third type of PU for “Elka”, and the first was a manual PU option.

Defense Express also noted that for the protection of certain important objects, it will be more convenient and effective to plant a few infantrymen than to deploy an entire NRC, because they will at least be easier to detect the target than the “Impulse-Air Defense”. It will also be cheaper.

“That’s why it’s worth looking at the “other side”. In addition to the “Impulse-Air Defense”, several other NRKs have been created on the basis of “Impuls-M”. In particular, there are bridge-layers, minelayers, carriers of anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, REP, cargo versions and versions with a remotely controlled combat module with a machine gun or an automatic grenade launcher,” analysts noted.

That is, NRK based on “Impuls-M” cover almost all spheres and could act autonomously, without support by other means. Such a group will theoretically be able to fight FPV drones – conventional and fiber-optic, armored vehicles, infantry, reconnaissance UAVs, as well as mine the territory, make their way past ditches and ditches, and explore radio space.

Defense Express also emphasized that countering and even detecting such NRCs can be problematic, because they are controlled either over a protected radio channel or through an optical cable. In addition, it is claimed that in case of loss of communication, it is able to independently return to a predetermined point.

“Impulse-M” payload is more than 500 kilograms. It can also tow a trailer with 1.5 tons of cargo. Its length is 2.2 meters, and its width is 1.6 meters. Autonomy – up to four hours, – speed – up to 15 km/h.

Thus, the analysts noted, the new “Impulse-Air Defense” will probably be used as part of a group of other air defense systems directly on the battle line or next to it. As part of the group, it will assume the role of a means of combating reconnaissance UAVs and “bomber” drones of the “Baba Yaga” type.

In the US, they want to protect against Abrams and Bradley dronesAs UNIAN reported, the United States of America is considering potential options for installing anti-drone turrets on Abrams tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. Defense Express explained that the proliferation of FPV drones has hit the effectiveness of armored vehicles and the classic methods of using them on the battlefield. So the US promises to fix this with the installation of the Bullfrog turret on the Abrams and Bradley.

At the same time, there has not even been practical integration on armored vehicles, let alone testing or use on the battlefield. So it’s still too early to talk about “solving the drone problem.”
