The Morning Show star took to Instagram on Sunday to share a few tearful snaps as she waved goodbye to 23-year-old Gus at Sydney Airport – and some thoughts on being an empty nester.
‘I read somewhere that you shouldn’t say to your children, “You make me so proud.” Because that’s making it about you,’ the 58-year-old began the Instagram post.
‘Instead you SHOULD say to them, “You should be so proud of YOURSELF.” I understand the sentiment.’
‘So with that in mind, we hope Gus is proud as he takes his next big leap all the way to Berlin for his dream job.’
Despite being happy for her son and his new adventure, the Seven star admitted that it had been challenging watching Gus move to the other side of the globe.
‘We’ve been wobbly these last few days after squeezing him tightly and saying goodbye at the International Airport.
‘His last weeks in Sydney were filled with fond farewells with friends, family, feline cuddles and Grandma. Go get ’em Gus. We love you,’ she finished off the heartfelt post.
In the pictures, Kylie could be seen with tears in her eyes as she wrapped her arms around her eldest son, who towered over his emotional mum.
Another showed Gus, Kylie, her husband Tony Gillies and their second son Archie posing for one last picture together at the airport.
Kylie also included pictures of Gus’ going away party, as well as shirts made with his face on the front and ‘wanted’ printed across them.
Friends of the TV host flooded the comments section with words of support for Kylie and excitement for her son’s next chapter.
‘What an amazing adventure. Have the best time Gus, we’ll look after mum and you look after you,’ co-host Larry Emdur wrote.
Real Housewives of Sydney alum Sally Obermeder penned: ‘All the feels in every way. Congrats to Gus and his amazing parents who instilled in him the belief that his dreams are worth chasing.’
‘Hey mumma bear, you did good,’ fellow Seven star Melissa Doyle gushed.
It comes after Kylie suffered a double tragedy after losing both her dogs within eight weeks of each other.
The Channel Seven star took to Instagram in October to reveal she was ‘heartbroken’ after her French bulldogs Tilly and Pepe had both passed away.
‘It’s with heavy hearts we share some devastating news. Our beloved Frenchie bulldog babies have gone and we are heartbroken,’ she wrote.
‘We shared so many of their adventures with you all – their antics, Pepe’s ‘talking’, the cuddles, the cuteness. And now they are all memories.
‘Sweet Tilly. Our gentle girl. A snuggly one-eyed pirate princess. While we were her second family, she immediately was our baby girl.’
Kylie went on to say that both had passed away from underlying health issues.
