Ahn Song Ki starred in more than 130 films / Collage UNIAN / ScreenshotsAt the age of 74, the South Korean actor Ahn Sung-ki (“Divine Fury”, “Hansang: Rise of the Dragon”, “Battle of the Conditions”), who is considered one of the most respected artists in the country, died.
His agency Artist Company released a statement saying that the actor passed away on January 5, 2026 at 9:00 am. The agency emphasized that Ahn Song Ki, with a deep sense of professional mission and unwavering integrity, walked side by side with the history of South Korean mass culture:
“His acting was always addressed to man and life itself, and through numerous works he conveyed deep feedback and comfort that transcended the boundaries of time and generations. Ahn Sung-ki was especially valued as a true “national actor” in the full sense of the word – not only for his roles, but also for the human dignity and responsibility with which he treated senior and junior colleagues and with respect for the very profession of the film set.”
On his last journey, the actor will be escorted by well-known movie personalities, including Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”, “Acolyte”, “The Maid”) and Jung Woo-sung (“The Fight”, “The King”).
Biography of Ahn Song KiHe was born on January 1, 1952. Ahn Song Ki made his film debut as a child, appearing at the age of five in the film “The Twilight Train” (1957). In his teenage years, he temporarily left the acting profession and concentrated on his studies.
He returned to films in 1977, and his breakthrough “adult” role was in the drama Good, Windy Days (1980), which won him the Grand Bell Award for Best Debut. In the future, Ahn Sung Ki became a key figure in modern Korean cinema, starring in more than 130 films.
Among the most famous works are “Mandala”, “Whale Hunting”, “White Badge”, “Two Cops”, the large-scale military drama “Silmido” and the tape “Radio Star”.
Ahn Sung-ki has received the Grand Bell Award for Best Actor several times – a record number in the history of this award. In addition to working in films, he was actively involved in public activities and headed the Korean Screen Actors Association.
