The Hunting Wives is expanding its social circle.
Angel Reese, the two-time WNBA all-star, has joined the cast of the spicy Netflix series for season two. She steps into a co-starring role described as “Trainer Barbie.”
The Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman-starring series that became a breakout hit for Netflix this summer is currently in production in the US After the streamer acquired the series from Starz ahead of its first-season launch, the eight-episode second season will release exclusively as a Netflix branded series in nearly all countries Netflix is available. A premiere date has yet to be set.
Reese joins previously announced new cast members John Stamos, Kim Matula, Alex FitzAlan, Dale Dickey and Cam Gigandet.
Known as “Bayou Barbie,” Reese rose to stardom while leading the LSU Tigers to the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship. She plays for the Chicago Sky in the WNBA, where she’s a two-time all-star and made the league’s All-Rookie Team in 2024.
Returning cast members also include Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, George Ferrier, Karen Rodriguez, Hunter Emery and Branton Box.
Created by Rebecca Cutter, The Hunting Wives is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by May Cobb.
The Hunting Wives, from Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment, landed at Netflix after first being developed as a Starz series. The series about upper class Texan women who like to shoot guns, drink and hit the party circuit — and who kill people — was the most-viewed streaming series in the US one month after its July 21 release.
The first season ended on a major cliffhanger when (spoiler!) Sophie (Snow), while drinking and driving, crashed her car into Margo’s (Akerman) brother, potentially adding another fatal drunken driving accident to her rap sheet and majorly jeopardizing both her own family’s future, as well as her steamy love affair with Margo. (Read Snow’s recent theories about season two.)
Here’s the season two logline: “At the start of season two, Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games the question arises. Are they the hunters or the hunted?”
Hunting Wives is created by showrunner/writer/EP Cutter. Executive producers are Erwin Stoff for 3 Arts Entertainment and Cobb.
