Martin admitted that he is still working on writing the sixth book of the cycle “A Song of Ice and Fire”, which is called “The Winds of Winter”.

As The Independent writes, in a new interview the author called the work on the novel “the curse of his life.” Martin has been working on the book for 16 years and admits that the process is extremely difficult for him. According to him, there will be chapters in the novel on behalf of Jon Snow, which actually confirms the return of the character after death. At the same time, the writer noted that the ending of the book saga will be less “happy” than the end of the series from HBO.

Martin also hinted that not all of the key characters will get a positive outcome. In particular, according to his design, Tyrion Lannister is unlikely to have a happy ending. Martin added that he also reconsidered some plot decisions, including the idea of killing Sansa Stark, when he saw Sophie Turner’s acting in the series.

The author explains the significant delay in the release of “Winds of Winter” due to being busy with other projects. Among them is the adaptation of the novel “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, which will soon be released on HBO, as well as work on the television universe of “Game of Thrones”. Martin admitted that he is facing backlash from fans over the delay in releasing the book, which is at least 13 years late.

As you know, “Game of Thrones” is a large-scale fantasy saga centered on the struggle of several noble families for power over the fictional continent of Westeros. Events unfold in a world where political intrigue, wars, betrayals and dynastic conflicts are closely intertwined with magic, dragons and ancient prophecies.

In 2011, the HBO channel launched the series, which became a global hit and lasted for eight seasons. The television version ended in 2019 with its own finale, which caused a controversial reaction from the audience. At the same time, the book story was never brought to an end. To date, five novels have been published out of the planned seven. The next installment, The Winds of Winter, has been in the works for over ten years.

We will remind you that on January 18, the first season of the TV series “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, which was also based on the book by George Martin, will be released on HBO. The events will take place 90 years before the start of “Game of Thrones”.
