In addition to George, a number of online stars have broken through on to TV in the past six months – including gaming streamer Angry Ginge won I’m A CelebrityCredit: Brian Roberts George — last year’s only male finalist on the BBC One dance show — believes his peers from the online world might be in line to get one or even both roles.

Talking ahead of the start of the Strictly Live tour, George said: “A content creator could take that job. I think it will ruffle feathers, but if it’s the right person, it’s the right person.

“When Strictly started, Tess and Claudia weren’t the huge stars they are now.

“You want someone to come in and make it their own, you don’t want anyone to emulate them, and we’ve got presenters coming from TikTok now. It would be exciting and it will add a new lease of life to the show.”

In addition to George, a number of online stars have broken through on to TV in the past six months. Gaming streamer Angry Ginge won I’m A Celebrity and YouTuber KSI is now a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.

In 2024, TikToker GK Barry was also a hit in the jungle and Amelia Dimoldenberg, from web series Chicken Shop Date, is set to get her own Apple TV show soon. Both would be likely candidates to host Strictly.

George is convinced 2026 will see a further explosion of content creators on mainstream shows.

He said: “It took a while for people like me and Ginge to get on TV. We’re over the moon and excited for what happens next.

“The younger generation is growing up. It’s so much more accessible to jump onto YouTube or TikTok or Twitch, whatever it is.

“Online platforms are a springboard for people to find their place and it makes sense for TV to tap into that demographic.”

Gatiss is trigger happy

Mark Gatiss, wearing a gray suit and red-framed glasses, smiles at a film premiere.

Mark Gatiss says trigger warnings on old TV shows and films are a good thing if it stops them being ditched – after Netflix removed his comedy series The League Of Gentlemen in 2020Credit: PA Mark Gatiss approves of trigger warnings on old TV shows and films because it means they don’t get ditched – like his comedy series, The League Of Gentlemen.

Streaming service Netflix removed the surreal series from its platform in 2020 following objections about the use of blackface.

On the Scarred For Life podcast, Mark, whose cult show originally ran on the BBC from 1999 to 2002, said: “Talking Pictures TV, before they show an old film, they just show a little disclaimer which says, ‘This reflects the attitudes of the time’, and then you watch the film.

“It’s a healthier way of looking at anything. If you pretend it never happened, it’s like everything was some strange showbiz utopia.”

FILMING has started on Channel 4 thriller Careless.

Starring Solly McLeod, Robyn Malcolm, Katie Leung and Richard Roxburgh, it sees a Scottish backpacker with a dark past working for a rock legend in Sydney.

The four-parter is being produced by Australian streamer Stan.
