“Smart” bricks appeared at Lego: the manufacturer introduced the Smart Brick lineLEGO presented at CES 2026 “Smart Brick” (Smart Brick) – a smart part of the 2×4 format that brings whole sets to life. The company calls it the most important development of the Lego system in the last 50 years.
Hidden inside the Smart Brick is a tiny chip, a speaker and sensors that allow it to determine direction and interact with other blocks. These parts can make sounds, light up and determine which character is using them.
The technology functions autonomously and does not require connection to a smartphone or application. Unlike early interactive series like Lego Mario, the new part does without replaceable batteries. Energy is supplied via wireless charging, while one charging pad can power several parts at once.
The first launch of the technology will take place on March 1, 2026 in the LEGO Star Wars series. There will be details imitating the sounds of starship engines and blaster shots.
Lego notes that Smart Brick is not a one-time experiment. The company plans to develop a full-fledged ecosystem around it – with new sets and technologies, and the concept itself should go far beyond the boundaries of “Star Wars”.
