Russia and North Korea are jointly building the first road bridge across the border river.
On satellite images, you can already see the new road bridge across the river on the border of the Russian Federation and the DPRK / UNIAN collage, photo CSIS/VantorOn satellite images, you can already see the road bridge between Russia and North Korea, which these countries decided to build after the visit of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to Pyongyang. As Newsweek writes, this is the first automobile bridge that will connect Russia with North Korea.
The bridge is being built across the Tumangan River (also known as the Tumannaya River) along their common border. The only connecting point between the Russian Federation and the DPRK and a railway bridge are located nearby. The satellite images were analyzed by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Analysts have established that the construction of load-bearing piles designed to support the bridge supports has been completed. These structures transfer the weight of the bridge deck to the foundation.
On the North Korean side, six piers of the bridge have been erected on the ground, and excavation work for two additional piers has been completed. Workers are also nearing completion of the access ramp and abutment connecting the bridge deck to the ground.
A complex for inspection of transport is also being built. It will house customs, a vehicle maintenance facility and several ancillary buildings, as well as surrounding parking. According to analysts, there will probably be a change of drivers, because goods will pass through the border, but not people.
When the bridge will be openedCSIS analysts expect that at the current pace of work and resource utilization, as well as taking into account the severity of the upcoming winter, the project is expected to open in the first quarter of 2026.
How else do the Russian Federation and the DPRK cooperate? As UNIAN wrote, the North Korean regime sent soldiers to help the Russian army in the war against Ukraine. According to Ukrainian intelligence estimates, about 12,000 North Korean troops were involved in the fighting in Kurshchyna. Several hundred of them died, thousands were injured.
In addition, already this fall, the DPRK sent about 5 thousand so-called “builders” to Russia. They should help Russia restore infrastructure facilities.
At the same time, according to South Korean intelligence, about 10,000 North Korean troops remained near the Russian-Ukrainian border as of the beginning of autumn.
