More than a thousand Ukrainian defenders / UNIAN collage, photo of the coordination headquarters were returned to UkraineAccording to the results of repatriation measures, 1,200 dead soldiers returned to Ukraine. This was announced by the coordination headquarters on the management of prisoners of war.
“According to the Russian side, the bodies belong to the citizens of Ukraine, in particular servicemen. Repatriation took place according to the agreements in Istanbul,” – said in the message.
The coordination headquarters noted that law enforcement investigators together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will carry out all the necessary examinations and identification of repatrified bodies.
Updated at 18:30. The Security Service of Ukraine of the SBU showed an exclusive video return to Ukraine on June 13 bodies of fallen defenders and reported that the first repatriation took place with the use of specialized wagons of Ukrzaliznytsia.
“Thanks to this, the bodies of the dead defenders of Ukraine in accelerated mode will be delivered to institutions in different regions, where further identification and other measures will take place,” the statement said.
It is noted that the fallen defenders managed to return on the results of joint work of employees of the Joint Center for Coordinating the search and release of prisoners of war at the SBU, the coordination headquarters on the management of prisoners of war, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Ukraine. They are grateful for the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Arrangements in Istanbul and the return of bodiesAs reported by UNIAN, on June 11, 2025, the bodies of 1212 fallen defenders were returned to Ukraine. The coordination headquarters on the management of prisoners of war (KShPPv) noted that among the “defenders” in the shield, the Kharkiv, Luugansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye, Kherson regions were among the “defenders” in the Shield of the Russian Federation, in the Kharkiv, Lugansk, Donetsk.
On June 2, the delegation of Ukraine and Russia agreed on a new exchange of prisoners of war and the return of the bodies of dead soldiers at the Istanbul negotiations. The head of the Ukrainian delegation, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov then reported that “agreed to return 6 thousand bodies of dead soldiers (in exchange) for 6 thousand”.
