Rosé has officially made Grammys history.

The 28-year-old, a member of K-pop supergroup Blackpink, became the first K-pop idol to be nominated in the Grammys’ main six, general field categories. These awards include album of the year; record of the year; song of the year; best new artist; producer of the year, non-classical; and songwriter of the year, non-classical.

Rosé and her collaborator Bruno Mars nabbed nominations in two of these categories — record of the year, honoring the recording of the song, and song of the year, honoring the songwriting itself — along with a nod in the best pop duo/group performance category for their smash hit, “APT.”

“I’m getting chills right now,” Rosé said earlier this year when asked about the potential to make history at the Grammys during her The Hollywood Reporter cover interview.

“I think it’ll be a moment that proves to myself so many things that I grew up doubting,” she continued. “I think if this happens, then it’s going to mean more to so many more people than myself. It’ll just prove a lot in me as well. It’ll just be a moment of celebration for everyone who believes.”

Rosé also earned herself an MTV VMA earlier this year. The 28-year-old took home the song of the year trophy for “APT,” which spent 45 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut album Rosiewhich “APT” served as the first single on, was released in December 2024 and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

The singer’s nomination, along with the handful of nominations KPop Demon Hunters received, marks a huge milestone for K-pop in the US overall, acting as a clear indicator of the music genre’s mainstream status. Supergroup BTS first opened the doors for K-pop at the Grammy Awards in 2021 with their nomination in the pop duo/group performance category for their single “Dynamite.” Girl group KATSEYE, a global girl group formed through K-pop training methods by Korean label Hybe and Geffen Records, also scored two nominations.
