The real-life married couple will play Loretta Castorini and Ronny Cammareri, played in the film by Cher and Nicholas Cage, with a cast including Patti LuPone, Stevie Van Zandt, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro, Stephen DeRosa, Dez Duron and Mary Lou Rosato. Peter Sagal, the host of the radio show Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Mewill host and read stage directions.
The benefit will take place Nov. 10 at 8 pm at the Music Box Theater with proceeds going to New York Stage and Film. Tony Award winner Doug Hughes will direct.
This will be the first time John Patrick Shanley’s Academy Award-winning film, which also won Cher an Oscar for best Oscar, will be seen on stage.
In addition to Byrne (Bridesmaids) and Cannavale, Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) will play Raymond Cappomaggi, DeRosa (The Queen of Versailles) and Duron (Maybe Happy Ending) will be the crooners, LuPone (who last appeared on Broadway in last season’s The Roommate) will play Rose Castorini, Turturro (Severance) will play Cosmo Castorini, Van Zandt (Silvio Dante in The Sopranos and a founding member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band) will play Johnny Cammareri and Rosato (Once Upon a Mattress) will play the crone. The reading takes place at the theater where the Broadway play art, starring Cannavale, James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris, is currently running.
The benefit will support New York Stage and Film’s summer season at Marist University, year-round New York City programming, developing dance narrative programming, residencies for individuals and colleagues organizations, awards & fellowships, apprenticeships for emerging technicians and administrators, and audience engagement.
