You’re Cordially Invited actress Reece Witherspoon has revealed a British actress hasn’t spoken to her for years after an event they both attended took a sour turn.
While she didn’t name the star, internet sleuths have done the hard work so you don’t have to, and believe the actress Reece, 48, is referring to is none other than Kate Winslet.
The fallout may seem unlikely as Reece and Kate, 49, are sweethearts of the acting world and have been seen talking at multiple award shows in recent years, always appearing happy to see each other.
However, sleuths have discovered that not only did the Titanic actress and Reece both attend the Bafta/LA Cunard Britannia Awards in 2007, but Reece honoured Kate on stage with a speech filled with jokes.
Reece first mentioned the ‘haunting’ moment on Thursday when she told People that an actress she used to be friends with stopped talking to her after she ‘roasted’ her in a speech at an award show.

And Kate even gave Reece a hug after (Picture: Lester Cohen/WireImage) ‘We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore. I think she doesn’t like me anymore,’ she said.
She went on to say that the ’embarrassing’ moment was mostly down to misunderstanding as she was asked by the unnamed actress to ‘give her an award’ at an ‘elegant and classy’ British event.
Explaining her side of the story, Reece said she had never been to the event before and thought the speech was meant to be ‘funny’.
‘The tone [of the event] was British and elegant and classy. And I was like, “Remember the time we got laser hair removal?!”’ she told the news outlet.
‘I’m still embarrassed about it.’ She added: ‘I thought it was so funny, and it was just, I had the wrong audience.’
The two actresses became close friends after Kate moved into Reece’s neighbourhood (Picture: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images) While Reece’s comments don’t give much away about who the star could be, fans went through the archives and found that at the 2007 Bafta ceremony, the actress honoured Kate and mentioned laser hair removal in her speech.
JustJared has published parts of the speech quoting Reece as saying: ‘I always wanted to be a European movie star, wear giant sunglasses, elaborate neck scarves, smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, and have savoir faire and gravitas.’
She went on to say ‘good fortune’ came her way when Kate moved into the neighbourhood and they realised their kids were the same age and they could have ‘play dates’ thus birthing a friendship.
Kate welcomed Mia Threapleton with her now ex-husband Jim Threapleton in 2000, while Reece welcomed Ava Phillippe the same year with her now ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

She did, however, mention ‘the time [Witherspoon and Winslet] contemplated laser hair removal and… or that time on the freeway when they pulled over and.. or that really funny thing that happened when they were both in their underwear.’
At the time of writing, Reece hasn’t confirmed nor denied whether her former friend is Kate, and Kate hasn’t responded to the theories either.
The actresses have also been spotted together since the awards, including presenting together at the Academy Awards in 2016.
And while Reece may have lost a valued friendship, she has a healthy inner circle in Hollywood, with pals including her The Morning Show co-star Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Garner, Kerry Washington, who she starred in Little Fires Everywhere with, and Babygirl actress, Nicole Kidman, as well as many more.
