It is difficult for parents to feed three chicks, so one usually dies.
This was reported at the National Antarctic Scientific Center on Facebook, whose specialists were also published by the relevant photos.
“Look what a unique pengunin is on our island Galindes. It grows up three chicks. The survival of all babies is very low, ”scientists said.
They explain that the reason for the low survival of so many penguin is simple – it is difficult for parents to feed three chicks. However, this family managed – dad and mom coped with their mission, because their penguins are already quite adult – they have about three weeks.
According to the biologist of the 29th UAE Svitozar Davidenko, such a family is only one in Galindez.
In total, about 2,000 babies of subantarctic penguins are already on the island. Adults – approximately 4 thousand.
“So there are 6,000 penguins together around Vernadsky,” scientists added.
It is said that Ukrainian biologists are watching these birds in the context of climate change. After all, the migration of subantarctic penguins over the last 20 years has been one of the indisputable evidence of warming in Antarctic.
What else is known from the Academic Vernadsky stationAccording to UNIAN, on the island of Galindes, where the Ukrainian polar station “Academician Vernadsky” is born, many penguins were born. The polarists have removed how the process of feeding the baby – the adult bird gives the chicks part of the digestible food, which “the baby is happy to absorb.
After the chick asks to eat, the adult penguin “supplies” partially digested food, usually the wing, from its esophagus to the beak, and the baby gets it right from there.
At that time, about a thousand babies were born on the island. Eggs still left in the nests, but most families already had two babies.
