Political expert Valentyn Gladkikh wrote about it and published fragments of the politician’s interview with the newspaper“Moscow Komsomolets”, which one, according to the expert, they are trying to clean it up on the Internet.
Hladkykh reminded that before the war, Lutsenko gave interviews to Russian publications, where, in order to please the Russians, he openly mocked Ukrainian symbols and the UPA.
“It was he who portrayed Ukrainians as strange slaves, at whom it is a sin not to laugh. Being a little younger, Lutsenko liked to relish stories, calling “a trident – bullshit [в оригіналі нецензурна лайка]”. For many years, Lutsenko repeated the narratives that are still spun by Kremlin propagandists: that the UPA is a “punisher,” that “there was no national problem in the Soviet Union,” that “the rehabilitation of the UPA will split Ukraine,” that “Ukrainian symbolism divides people,” that the city of Rivne would be more correct than Rivne. According to the expert, this is typical colonial rhetoric that creates contempt for everything Ukrainian. However, the most indignant was the story that Lutsenko told with a joke – about the alleged partisans who forced the “mover” to remove the trident from his cap.
“Let’s celebrate on May 9. And here one partisan drank half a glass of vodka, and looking at the Rukhov man with his trident, he said: “Listen, boy, you are this “shit” [в оригіналі нецензурна лайка] take off your hat!”…”. And he and the man five grandfathers took the driver by the chest and dragged him into the forest. And they forced him to remove the trident and bury it in the sand with his own hands. Why am I telling this? Nationalist symbols in our places are extremely divisive,” the expert quotes Lutsenko as saying.
Hladkykh also emphasized that pro-Russian sympathies are inherent not only to Lutsenko, but also to his political leader – Petro Poroshenko, who, according to Hladkykh, traded with the Russian Federation for many years, worked in the Yanukovych-Azarov government, and was also a staff member in the Russian Orthodox Church.
