On Thursday night, the 51-year-old comedian jokingly referenced his ‘Lisa Riley heckler’ joke after a group of fans appeared to be shouting out and taking away from the performance at the iconic London venue.

He asked the crowd: ‘Is it them in that box? Is that them? Who is it? Eh, it’s you monkeys there.

‘Now then, what are we going to do with you now? These people in this area now, do any of you look like Lisa Riley? No, alright.’

The audience could be heard laughing as he halted the show to address the two hecklers in a video published by the Mirror.

He asked the rest of the crowd in the area if they were annoying them, and was met with cheers to show they were.

The comedian tackled the issue head-on (Picture: Brian J Ritchie/Hot Sauce/REX/Shutterstock) ‘So what are we going to do about this? I’m not getting involved this time. Please, the lovely people in that area, would you like to raise your hands if those gentlemen are p****ing you off,’ he said.

‘I’m going to leave it to the security team to go up there and sort it out. Nah, you can carry on, but if you’re rambunctious, you’re going home early… you naughty boys.’

An audience member told the paper that ‘the crowd was audibly kicking off due to some disagreement’ before the Phoenix Nights legend got involved.

They added: ‘But he did reference it again twice in the show as they kept shouting, comparing it to a “boot sale” at one point. It seemed like the audience in the area wanted him to kick the person out due to all the drama.’

Last month, the Car Share star hit headlines are ordering one audience member at a Manchester gig to be removed for repeatedly shouting out ‘garlic bread’.

Another attendee was then removed from the audience after shouting, ‘We love you Peter Kay,’ with the actor calling out in response: ‘Go on, off you go Lisa Riley,’ in a comparison to the former Emmerdale actress.

After the controversy, Kay issued a statement on his Instagram story saying he had to ‘take action’ to avoid disruption for other audience members, adding: ‘The lady who was escorted out did bear a striking resemblance to Lisa Riley, though I don’t see how that’s an insult.’

He added: ‘As a comedian, you never want to eject anyone, but when repeated disruptions make it impossible to continue, it’s important to consider the experience of the rest of the audience, who’ve paid to see a show without interruption.’

Lisa herself has since brushed off any suggestion she was offended by the quip.

She said at the time: ‘Please draw a line under this now, I am not offended, never was offended. love Peter Kay to pieces, laughter is my favourite medicine.’

Metro has contacted Peter Kay’s representatives for comment.
