After using ex-players, animation and slime to draw casual fans into the NFL, the league is tapping a new segment of the TV audience for an alternate broadcast: reality fans.

Peacock and NFL+ will feature a Reality Hot Seat altcast for the Dec. 7 Sunday Night Football game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans. The booth will feature Survivor and The Traitors alum Rob Mariano, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Heather Gay, TV and podcast host Justin Sylvester (E!’s Daily Pop) and Kate Chastain of Below Deck and The Traitors.

The alternate stream will highlight “the storylines, rivalries and larger-than-life personalities that make professional football as captivating as a hit reality TV show,” Peacock says in his announcement.

Reality Hot Seat brings together two of the greatest passions, football and reality TV, both full of drama, strategy and fiercely loyal fans,” said Frances Berwick, chairman of Bravo and Peacock Unscripted. “We’re not reinventing the game; we’re simply watching it through a different lens, one that leans into the unscripted storylines already happening on the field. And with our host lineup, we’ve drafted the perfect team to bring that to life on Peacock.”

The NFL and its broadcast partners have leaned into alternate telecasts in the past few years. ESPN2 regularly runs a Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli altcast led by brothers and Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning. Nickelodeon has aired several games with kids and family-oriented commentary, appearances by popular Nick characters and slime effects, and Disney+ has shown (nearly) real-time animated presentations of two games.

“This is a dream broadcast for football fans and reality TV fans alike,” said Jackie Chang, director of media strategy and business development for the NFL. “We are thrilled to partner with NBC and Peacock for an exciting and unique presentation of Sunday Night Football that will reach new audiences and showcase stars on and off the field.

So Obsessed Productions is behind Reality Hot Seat. Jenny Slater and Bobby Mancke are the executive producers.
