MIT research showed exactly the opposite picture.
Studies have shown that employees are more efficient when they work with AI / photo ua.depositphotos.comThe creators of ChatGPT with OpenAI released a report on how workers are increasing productivity thanks to their AI tools.
As written in the OpenAI report, in a survey of 9,000 employees from a hundred companies, they reported that they save an average of 40 to 60 minutes a day with ChatGPT. About 75% of participants said that AI speeds up their work or improves the quality of tasks.
The company also claims that so-called “leading” firms use ChatGPT six times more than others.
It is worth noting that the document appeared against the background of academic research, where the effectiveness of such decisions is questioned. OpenAI’s estimates contradict MIT’s findings published in August. According to this study, 95% of companies that invested in AI services did not receive a tangible return, although the total investment was 30-40 billion dollars.
Most of the projects did not affect the profit, Harvard Business Review called this phenomenon “workslop” – tasks that create the appearance of productivity, but hardly affect the final result.
Anthropic, responding to these studies, presented its own figures. According to their estimation, using Claude reduces the time of completing tasks by 80% – from 90 minutes to 18. But here the company admits that the metric may be inflated, since it only takes into account the time inside the chat, and not the final execution of the work.
Despite the difference in data and the recognition of methodological limitations, both AI companies assure that neural networks bring tangible benefits to business. OpenAI said in a comment to Bloomberg that the MIT research “does not match what they observe in real practice.”
We previously reported that the head of NVIDIA scolded his managers, who advise less use of AI. At the same time, Jensen Huang assures that neural networks will not take away people’s jobs.
