Most are ready to endure: KMIS showed that Ukrainians think about the terms of the end of the warOnly 16% of Ukrainians expect completion at least in the first half of 2026 / photo ua.depositphotos.comOnly a quarter of Ukrainians expect the war to end in the relatively near future. Such survey data was released today by the Kyiv Institute of Sociology (KMIS).

Since the survey was conducted in November-December 2025, 10% of the surveyed Ukrainians expected the war to end by the beginning of 2026 (in September 2025, there were 18%).

Only 16% expect completion at least in the first half of 2026 (15% in September).

At the same time, 29% of respondents named 2027 and later (in September it was 32%).

At the same time, every third respondent (33%, and in September – 23%) answered: “I don’t know”.

KMIS notes that, at the same time, the majority of Ukrainians (62%) continue to answer that they are ready to endure the war as long as necessary (in September it was the same number). Another 3% answered that they are ready to endure for about a year.

A shorter period (six months or a few months) is mentioned by 14% of respondents (in September it was 21%, but at the same time, from 13% to 21%, there were more people who could not answer the question).

The end of the war in Ukraine – what are the predictionsAs reported by UNIAN, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, believes that, in general, Russia’s war against Ukraine will not end in 2026. There is also zero chance that there will be a ceasefire by the end of winter.

He believes that there will be no peace agreement through the Russian Federation.

Kuleba notes that a possible ceasefire after February will depend on how Ukraine manages to survive these two winter months. In particular, in what state will Ukraine, Russia and our Western partners be then.

Kuleba believes that there are chances for a ceasefire in 2026, but these chances will begin to appear only after the end of winter, if Ukraine still comes out with the will to continue the fight, and the Russians understand that they are not capable of breaking the Ukrainians even after creating terrible conditions for life in Ukraine during the winter.
