When it was announced that the eighties heartthrob, who found fame as the guitarist in Spandau Ballet, would be appearing on the ITV reality show, women across the nation swooned.
And Kemp, it seems, will not disappoint as he told the Mail on Sunday: ‘I hope I get a Jungle shower moment, I’m not sure I’ll be doing an old Myleene Klaas, I haven’t had time to work out but listen, I won’t be avoiding the Jungle shower, let’s put it that way.’
The father-of-two has reached somewhat of a ‘silver fox’ status, and his son, Roman, who presents BBC’s The One Show and went on the 2019 series, has labelled him a ‘nepo-daddy’.
Following in his son’s footsteps, the musician said: ‘Roman was the first person I asked for advice about whether I should take the job, and he told me to go for it and said he was jealous of me going in.
‘But then he kept trying to give me advice, and I had to tell him to stop. I was like, “Just leave it, Roman,” because if I do well, I know he’ll just claim the win.
‘But if I do win, Roman won’t live it down.’
The former Capital Breakfast host placed third behind Coronation Street star Andy Whyment and EastEnders actress Jacqueline Jossa, who was crowned Queen of the Jungle.
When asked what role he was going to play in the Jungle, Kemp said: ‘If you go in there and try and be something, it never works. I have had a lot of life experience, and at points that is what the group will need.’
But, he was quick to add: ‘I’m not worried about what people will think of me, the last thing I want to do is go in there and be false, I’ve never done that in my life and I don’t want to start now.
‘I wouldn’t consider leaving the show for anything, though, I’ve never gotten up and walked away from anything in my life.
‘I’ve lived with big groups of people before in Spandau Ballet and that really taught me how to live with people.’
The EastEnders actor is married to Shirlie Holliman, from the eighties pop duo Pepsi and Shirlie, and he revealed that his wife of more than 35 years was ‘glad’ he was ‘taking some time for myself’.
He said: ‘Shirley is glad that I’m doing it because she knows I need to take some time out for myself and do something that I’ve always wanted to do. I’m away three nights a week, DJing up and down the country.’
