Richard Darbyshire has died at the age of 65 (Picture: Michael Putland/Getty Images) Richard Darbyshire, best known as the former frontman of 80s pop band Living In A Box, has died at the age of 65.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that he had died on Monday, November 10.
His family confirmed his death to the BBC, adding in a statement: ‘We are all very sad, but his memory and songs will live on.’
His bandmate, Marcus and Tich, also paid tribute to the late star in a black and white post on social media that announced his passing.
‘His vocal skills knew no bounds, from the driving raw power of our first, eponymous hit song, to the tender heart-melting charm of Room In Your Heart, Richard, truly, could do it all.
‘His guitar playing, though less recognised, was equally accomplished. As a songwriter, Richard was at the heart of everything we did; a pure craftsman and a master of his art.’
Marcus Vere, Richard Darbyshire, and Anthony Critchlow made up the band(Picture: Vinnie Zuffante/Getty Images) The band, consisting of Anthony ‘Tich’ Critchlow (drums) and Marcus Vere (keyboards and synthesisers) reflected that Darbyshire was a ‘reluctant’ popstar who hated life in the spotlight.
‘In some ways Richard was the most reluctant of pop stars, always eschewing the limelight that inevitably came with the success we had. He hated the photo shoots, the interviews, the TV appearances and thought it was all a bit daft.
‘He was happiest in the studio, guitar in hand, working on the next song.’
They concluded the post by emphasising that they would miss him dearly.
‘Richard, wherever you are, [we] will miss you dearly. The laughs we had, the wildcat ride we went on, will never be forgotten.’

The group then reformed in 2016 without Darbyshirt and has been together to the present day.
The group’s 1987 self-named debut single, Living in a Box, reached number five on the UK Singles Chart and was a top-20 hit in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1989, their single Room in Your Heart reached number five in the UK.
After the group split in 1990, Darbyshire went on to have a successful solo career with his solo album, How Many Angels (1994). He also wrote a number of hit songs for other artists.
In later life, Darbyshire opened several songwriting workshops in London, to give writing lessons to young artists. He worked alongside Sonia Jones, a vocal coach and his wife.
