The 75-year-old singer, most known for his hit Jessie’s Girl, has been a staple of the music industry for years, having started his career off in the 60s.
In a new interview, he revealed that he underwent a whole-body MRI scan recently, which uncovered untreated injuries 25 years after hitting his head while on stage in Las Vegas.
‘I fell 25 feet, hit my head and then wood came down and hit my head, and then my head hit the stage again,’ he recalled. ‘I thought I had just broken my wrist, but on the scan I found out I have some brain damage from the fall, so I’m working on trying to repair that.’
Rick didn’t go into further details about the brain damage he has been facing, but shared that he wants to know everything that may be physically wrong with him – while his family are the opposite.
‘My dad died from not wanting to know,’ he continued to People Magazine. ‘He thought he had stomach cancer for years and never got it checked out.

‘That was a giant message to me: If you want to live long, you have to be prepared for some bad news now and then.’
The musician insisted that he still feels as though he’s in his 20s, and goes above and beyond to make sure he’s still in top physical shape.
In fact, he confirmed that he exercises on a daily basis, and has cut back on alcohol – and now only has ‘a couple of sips’ when he’s on stage.
‘I was drinking quite a bit, and as you get older, it’s a natural thing to drop all that s**t,’ he added. ‘I’m not [in] AA — I mean, I know a lot of people it’s worked for. I’ll have a couple of sips of vodka or something when I’m onstage, but I don’t drink any other time.’
Rick burst onto the scene in the late 60s, before dropping his debut single, Speak to the Sky, in 1971.
He went on to release Hooky Jo, Affair of the Heart, Rock of Life and Broken Wings over the years.
The star is getting on the road again in a few weeks (Picture: Getty) However, his 1981 hit, Jessie’s Girl, hit the top spot around the world, including in the US and Australia, cementing his status as a huge musician.
Rick’s comments come ahead of his upcoming I Want My 80s tour, which is kicking off in just a few weeks.
The Don’t Talk to Strangers star will be performing alongside other music icons, including John Waite, Paul Young, John Cafferty and Wang Chung.
He will be performing in St Augustine, in Florida, before racking up dates in Dallas, LA, New Jersey, Scottsdale and West Palm Beach, before ending the run of dates in Tennessee in October.
