Keith Urban seems to have made a pointed lyric change on stage just before his split from Nicole Kidman was revealed.
It was revealed earlier this week that the 57-year-old country singer’s wife of 19-years, actor Nicole Kidman, 58, filed for divorce after the pair separated at the start of summer, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
As news of the breakdown of their marriage went public, Keith continued his High and Alive World Tour which is currently travelling around the US.
In footage captured from a concert before the couple’s break-up was announced he’s heard paying homage to his new guitarist Maggie Baugh, 25, in a surprise lyric change in a song he’s previously said was about the Australian actor.
The clip, uploaded to Maggie’s Instagram, shows him singing his 2016 song The Fighter featuring Carrie Underwood, when he switches the line ‘when they’re tryna get to you baby, I’ll be the fighter’ to ‘when they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.’
She captioned the post: ‘Did he just say that’ with the side-eye emoji.
The moment happened between him and his guitarist Maggie during the song, The Fighter (Picture: WireImage/Getty) Keith – who shares two daughters with Nicole, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14 – has previously discussed the inspiration behind this particular song.
In an interview with Billboard in 2017, he shared: ‘It’s all from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her.
‘The song is about wanting to heal somebody, wanting to take care of somebody, wanting to protect somebody. It’s really like a vow in so many ways.’
In particular, it was written when Keith temporarily up and moved to London to support Nicole while she was on the West End.
Keith has previously shared that Nicole was the muse for this song (Picture: Getty) Given the personal nature of the song, and the timing with which he changed the lyrics, fans are unimpressed.
‘Wow, that song was made for Nicole. For him to do that that tells us what he’s really all about,’ femmigirlz commented.
Another user, lippykels_78, said it was ‘utter disrespect’ adding: ‘Nic deserves so so much better than this.’
‘Break ups happen but do it with grace, dignity, and respect my goodness,’ cole88x11 agreed.
Documents obtained by Daily Mail revealed the surprising custody arrangement hashed out between the pair, with The Perfect Couple actor having the teenagers for 306 days of the year, and Keith just 59.

When reports emerged of their impending divorce, a source told People: ‘Nicole’s sister [Antonia] has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another.
‘[Nicole] didn’t want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage.’
Keith has previously been open about the struggles his marriage has faced, last year moved to tears as he recounted the rocky early days in a speech celebrating his soon-to-be ex-wife.
‘We got married in June 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, the addictions that I had done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens.
‘I went into the Betty Ford Center for three months. Four months into a marriage, and I’m in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us.’
Ultimately he praised Nicole for ‘pushing through every negative voice and choosing love’.
