Yep, you read that right. The immersive theatre experience You Me Bum Bum Train returned for 2024 after an eight-year break – and while we’d love to give you more information, it’s a secret.

The contents of the show is kept tightly under wraps so when audience members go they are totally surprised – leading some to even having panic attacks. All participants even sign an NDA on arrival. It’s serious stuff.

The team behind the West End play – set in a secret location – is made up entirely of volunteers and a string of A-list celebrities, who have experienced the play and were itching to get involved themselves.

One of these famous faces is James, 46, who after watching the show during its last run was said to have been desperate to take part himself.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: ‘James had been to see the show eight years ago when it was in London before so when he saw it was back he wanted to take in the madness himself.

YMBBT is an experimental immersive show that’s been described as ‘life-changing’ ‘All actors in the play volunteer for free – regardless if you’re an A-lister or have done little more than attended drama class at school.

‘The whole thing is shrouded in secrecy and no one is meant to talk about what goes on but some of the biggest names in the world have taken part.

Metro recently reviewed YMBBT, describing it as an utterly life-changing experience.

‘At points I was confronted with some of the hardest challenges of my life, and then seconds later I would be having the most fun I’ve had in years. I came out of it feeling like a completely different person and even weeks later that feeling hasn’t gone anywhere,’ TV editor Adam Miller wrote.

He continued: ‘In 60 minutes, I learned more about myself than I ever could in months of therapy. I realised I’m capable of so much more than I knew, I recognised the limitations I put on myself are my doing and my doing alone but I can get rid of them too.’

Wrapping up the much-loved show – in which he plays Smithy who, spoiler alert, does get his happy ending – James said it had been ‘the greatest privilege’ making the show, which he co-wrote with Ruth Jones.

Posting a picture of him and Ruth – who plays Nessa Jenkins in the sitcom – James said: ‘We had to be together to watch tonight. We really hope you enjoy the finale of Gavin and Stacey.

‘It has been the greatest privilege making this show over the past 17 years. We’ll see you on BBC One at 9pm. The years go by so fast, let’s hope the next beats the last. Happy Christmas.’

The next day, he posted some behind-the-scenes photos of him and Ruth while thanking viewers for watching, adding: ‘It means more than you’ll know.’
