Doctor of biological sciences, park employee Ivan Rusev told about it. He published a video in which you can see an unusual bird sitting on a plinth.

According to him, the video taken in the city of Izmail, Odesa region, shows a barn owl (barn owl) that was brought in injured. After rehabilitation, the beauty will be released into the wild nature of the national park.

As Rusev explains, there are 13 species of owls in Ukraine. One of the rarest is the barn owl. The species is included in the Red Book of Ukraine with the conservation status “endangered”.

Barn owls are small in size (about the size of a pigeon). They do not have a round, like other species of owls, but a heart-shaped face disc. The coloration is dominated by gray and yellowish colors. The bird has a wingspan of about 90 cm.

“One family of owls catches thousands of rodents a year. That is, the groins perform an important sanitary role, catching, first of all, sick and weakened rodents, which are carriers of pathogens of diseases dangerous to humans,” the scientist said.

According to him, there are various factors affecting the number of species. Mostly, it is a negative anthropogenic influence in various directions. Currently, the number of owls has reached critical values, behind which there is a threat of extinction of the species.

Other news from the world of ecologyAs UNIAN wrote, in September in the south of the Odesa region, several red book wild forest kittens that lost their parents were picked up. The animals were taken for a respite, and then released into the wild in the National Natural Park “Tuzlivski Lymani”. These are rare animals subject to protection and listed in all editions of the Red Book of Ukraine. Such animals settle in the mountains, deep forests, floating in reed thickets, they often make dens on floating islands. As the scientist explained, earlier two kittens from this “orphan flock” were transferred to the Kyiv Zoo.
