A new modification of the Abrams tank / photo X, The Chieftain, was presented in the USAThe United States of America showed a prototype of a new modification of its M1E3 Abrams main battle tank. The photo of the novelty was published on the X social network by the reviewer The Chieftain.
The Ukrainian publication “Military” analyzed the published footage and concluded that the M1E3 version is very different from its predecessor – the M1A2 SEP. In particular, the undercarriage of the tank underwent changes. IN
“The tank was equipped with new headlights and a frontal camera located in a special niche integrated into the upper frontal part. At the same time, the driver-mechanic is deprived of a hatch together with triplexes. The upper frontal part visually consists of three separate sections. Presumably, this is a modular solution that allows for quick replacement of damaged elements,” the material says.
At the same time, in the upper part of the additional armor protection, the authors noticed structures similar to technical hatches. They can be designed to provide access to built-in electronics.

“The tank, at least visually, looks too low. This may indicate the presence of a new hydropneumatic suspension,” the authors add.
The turret of the tank has also undergone significant changes. Although its characteristic “cheeks” have not undergone changes, a large superstructure has appeared in its aft part, which houses the automatic gun loader and ammunition. The tower itself has become unmanned, so there is no need for a fourth crew member – a loader. However, the question remains as to where the vehicle commander will be placed, because previously he was located to the right of the loader.
“The tower was equipped with a stabilized commander’s sighting system from Leonardo DRS, and the additional weaponry was a remote-controlled R400 Mk2 RWS combat module from the Australian company EOS. This module is equipped with an EchoGuard radar designed to detect and counter drones, as well as a Javelin ATGM launcher with one-shot ammunition,” the material says.
However, the fact of Javelin integration raises questions. Given that the tower will be unmanned, it is unclear who and how will reload the ATGM.

“The question of the crew’s access to the machine remains unsolved. It can be assumed that it is possible to get inside through the turret. It is also possible that the side armor elements in the upper frontal part act as sliding hatches. This can be confirmed by elements that look like handles,” the publication stated.

Aviation expert Anatoliy Khrapchynskyi told UNIAN in a comment that this drone is almost as fast as a cruise missile in terms of speed. He noted that Iran transferred the technology for the production of Karrar drones to Russia.
Meanwhile, the Destinus company showed the Ruta Block 2 cruise missile. It has a powerful warhead and an increased range of more than 450 km.
