Lauren Hissrich assures that all character deaths are not accidental.
Lauren explained the non-canonical deaths of characters in the series “The Witcher” / Photo – NetflixThe showrunner of the series “The Witcher” Lauren Hissrich explained why the characters who survived in the books died again in the 4th season of the show. As she told GamesRadar, the kills aren’t done for the sake of shock, but to serve the characters’ dramatic development.
Hissrich admitted that there have been many controversies surrounding the deaths, for example, after Eskel was killed in the second season, turning him into a Forester. But, as she says, every loss has meaning:
“We don’t sit in a room and decide: ‘Let’s kill this one to surprise everyone.’ It’s important for us to show how the characters experience loss, how pain changes them and their view of the world.”
This is especially noticeable in the new season. Vesemir dies at the Battle of Monticalvo at the hands of Vilgefortz, and the mage Ystred sacrifices himself in Stigga’s castle to foil the enemy’s plans. These deaths, according to Hissrich, became a way to show the inner transformation of the survivors: “There are several unexpected deaths this season, and each one affects the characters in a different way. It’s a reflection that death and grief are part of the human experience.”
The fourth season of “The Witcher” is already available on Netflix, and the fifth, according to the creators, will complete the story of Geralt and Ciri.
Earlier we told that the critics “crushed” the 4th season of the TV series “The Witcher”. Liam Hemsworth played Geralt in the new season.
