The appearance of the Chinese anti-aircraft missile defense system in Azerbaijan indicates the strengthening of military-technical cooperation between the countries.

Previously, such a system was not noticed in the armament of the country’s army, writes Militarny.
The rehearsal video clearly shows the characteristic architecture of the FD-2000B launcher, placed on a four-axis chassis. Its layout coincides with the well-known export versions of the Chinese HQ-9B.
Earlier, Baku did not announce the purchase of the FD-2000B. However, in 2018, Baku was interested in this system, commenting on similar purchases by Pakistan. At that time, the complex was considered as an alternative to the Russian S-300, which was already in service with the Azerbaijani army.
According to the observations of the Mariner military analyst, the Russian Tor-M2E short-range air defense systems will also be used in the parade. According to analysts, this may indicate the renewal and expansion of the country’s air defense capabilities.
The authors explained that the air defense of Azerbaijan includes several levels of defense. They have the Russian Tor-M2E and S-300 systems, as well as the Israeli Barak MX (Barak-8) system. They believe that China’s FD-2000B can make this network more flexible and multi-layered.
What is known about the FD-2000B This is an export modification of the HQ-9B long-range air defense system, which was developed by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, which is one of the leading manufacturers of weapons in the PRC. The system was created on the basis of the Soviet S-300, but significantly modernized. In particular, modern electronics and an improved targeting algorithm.
The complex is designed to destroy aircraft, cruise missiles and short-range ballistic missiles. Its declared range reaches 200 km, and the maximum interception height is about 27 km. The radar is probably a version of the HT-233 with an active phased array antenna (AESA), which provides high accuracy in detecting even inconspicuous targets.
Earlier it was reported that similar systems were purchased by Egypt, so the FD-2000B is gradually becoming one of the most common Chinese long-range air defense systems on the world market.
Rearmament of other countries of the CaucasusWe will remind that Armenia plans to purchase additional Su-30 fighters to counter the JF-17C, which Azerbaijan is to receive. These are likely to be new Indian-made aircraft. The value of the deal is estimated at 2.5–3 billion dollars.
