He’s one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, known for his fan-friendly antics.

And Sydneysiders got a taste of Tom Hanks’ famously down-to-earth personality this week as the Oscar winner filmed his latest movie, Greyhound 2.

The Forrest Gump actor, 69, was seen chatting to onlookers who had gathered outside the filming location of the World War II drama in Little Bay.

A small group of curious bystanders stopped by the film set after spotting lights and film equipment outside the Prince Henry Hospital Nursing and Medical Museum.

Crew members watched as Hanks, who was in costume for his role, including a white shirt, a bathrobe, and a short 1940s haircut, mingled with the crowd.

‘Great to see Tom Hanks saying hello to the locals and having a little chat, very cool,’ a staff member from Site Pizza Bar said on Facebook as they posted pictures of the moment.

Hanks’ new film is a sequel to his 2022 Apple+ streaming hit Greyhound.

The actor scripted the drama, which is set on board a US Navy destroyer battling the enemy in the North Atlantic during World War II.

The sequel, which Hanks also wrote, follows his character Commander Ernst ‘Ernie’ Krause as he heads to fight the war in the Pacific.

Hanks was seen arriving in Sydney earlier this month with his entourage, including a very hunky bodyguard.

The strapping security guard cut a striking figure in a fitted black T-shirt, which showcased his heavily tattooed and impressively muscular arms.

This is Toy Story star’s second trip to Australia in several years, as he was here in 2020 to film his role as Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s epic movie Elvis.

During his stay on Queensland’s Gold Coast, he hired Brisbane-based Aaron Teece to be his personal chef.

At the time, the internationally renowned cook, who owns Studio Neon Catering, revealed the Aussie dishes that the Cast Away star fell in love with during his stay.

‘He loves a good homemade meat pie, loves Vegemite and now Oomite too,’ Aaron told the Courier Mail.

Oomite is an all-natural savoury spread billed as an all-natural, preservative-free version of Vegemite.

Aaron explained his main job was simply cooking the Oscar winner some hearty dinners.

The renowned chef, who has cooked for the likes of Lady Margaret Thatcher, the Queen, Kate Moss and Keira Knightley, shared a selfie with the Academy Award winner, his daughter Elizabeth and other members of his team.
