“Harrison Ford had strong words for Donald Trump regarding the president’s stance on climate change. “[Trump] doesn’t have any policies, he has whims. It scares the shit out of me,” Ford told The Guardian in an interview published on Friday. “The ignorance, the hubris, the lies, the perfidy. [Trump] knows better, but he’s an instrument”, — write: www.hollywoodreporter.com
“[Trump] doesn’t have any policies, he has whims. It scares the shit out of me,” Ford told The Guardian in an interview published on Friday. “The ignorance, the hubris, the lies, the perfidy. [Trump] knows better, but he’s an instrument of the status quo and he’s making money, hand over fist, while the world goes to hell in a hand basket. It’s unbelievable. I don’t know of a greater criminal in history.”
Ford went on to note that he’s been “preaching this stuff” about climate change and the increase in climate-related disasters “for 30 years.” He continued, “Everything we’ve said about climate change has come true. Why is that not sufficient that it alarms people that they change behaviors? Because of the entrenched status quo.”
“He’s losing ground because everything he says is a lie,” Ford added of Trump.
While Ford isn’t happy with the way Trump has handled the issue of climate change, he said he’s hopeful it can be improved. “I’m confident we can mitigate against [climate change]that we can buy time to change behaviors, to create new technologies, to concentrate more fully on implementation of those policies,” he told the outlet. “But we have to develop the political will and intellectual sophistication to realize that we human beings are capable of change. We are incredibly adaptive, we are incredibly inventive. If we concentrate on a problem, we can fix it most times.”
The Indiana Jones actor made the comments one month after Trump told the United Nations that climate change is “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world.”
“If you don’t get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail,” Trump continued during the UN summit. “You need strong borders and traditional energy sources if you are going to be great again.”
The Trump administration has also been denying scientific evidence of climate change and cutting funding and support for efforts to combat climate change, including renewable energy projects.
Ford’s latest criticism of Trump isn’t the first time he’s spoken out against the president. In November 2024, he endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
“Kamala Harris will protect your right to disagree with her about policies or ideas, and then, as we have done for centuries, we’ll debate them,” Ford said in a video posted via KamalaHQ’s X account. “We’ll work on them together, and we’ll move forward. The other guy, he demands unquestioning loyalty, says he wants revenge. I’m Harrison Ford. I’ve got one vote — same as anyone else — and I’m going to use it to move forward. I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris.”
Ford also said he was “frustrated about a lot of things in this country” before he made a direct dig at Trump. “But the other guy, he spent four years turning us against each other while embracing dictators and tyrants around the world,” he said. “That’s not who we are. We don’t need to make America great again. Come on, we are great, but what we need is to work together again. What we need is a president who works for all of us again.”
