Google’s new experimental browser turns open tabs into custom apps. / Google photoGoogle announced the launch of the experimental AI browser Disco, which, according to the company, “rethinks surfing the Internet.” The main feature of the application is that instead of the usual tabs, it offers custom projects from Gemini.
The neural network can independently access the Internet and search for information, as well as create interactive web applications for user tasks based on open tabs and chat requests – this function was named GenTabs.
For example, if you are planning a trip, you can generate a map with points of interest, hotel reservations, etc. You don’t need to write code for this – it’s enough to describe your wishes in natural language.
The system functions as a full-fledged dialogue between the user and the browser: there is no need to endlessly clarify requests – it is enough to open new tabs to expand the context and help the AI to better understand the task. At the same time, all generated elements keep links to the original sources, which allows you to check the information.
Currently, access to Disco and GenTabs can be obtained through a waiting list – the entry is already open, but for now only for macOS users.
The company separately notes that Disco was not created as a replacement for Chrome – it is an experimental development designed to test new ideas.
Statistics for 2025 show that Google Chrome’s share of the browser market has increased to 78%. This is the maximum indicator of the popularity of Chrome in its entire history. For comparison, Microsoft Edge, which is in 2nd place, is used by only 10%.
