Hunter Schafer shared that she was misgendered as a male in her new passport (Picture: Getty) Hunter Schafer has revealed that she was misgendered in her new passport, weeks after after President Donald Trump caused outrage with his executive orders.
Shortly after coming into power, the US leader implementing executive orders specifically targeting trans and nonbinary citizens, declaring that federal agencies only recognize two genders.
After a string of famous faces called out the 78-year-old’s government, the actress explained that she had been impacted by his decision.
Taking to TikTok, the 26-year-old shared an eight-minute video on her story, telling fans: ‘I’m sure most of us remember on the first day of Trump’s presidency, he signed an executive order to declare only two genders recognized by the state, male and female assigned at birth.
‘As a result of this – which I wrote down because I want to get it right – the Bureau of Consular Affairs has frozen passport applications requesting a gender marker change, or renewals or new applications with a gender marker deferring from an applicant’s gender assigned at birth.
‘My initial reaction to this, because our president is a lot of talk, was, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” And today, I saw it on my new passport: male.’
Hunter is most known for her role in Euphoria (Picture: Getty) After showing her passport to the camera, Schafer said that her original document was stolen while filming for a project in Barcelona last year, and she got an emergency passport at the time, before fixing this when she returned to the US.
The model specified that her gender markers were first changed when she was a teenager – but she never changed them on her birth certificate – and she has never had an issue until now.

‘I’ve had to do this one time before, no part of the process was different,’ the star continued. ‘I filled everything out just like I normally would, I put female. When it was picked up today and I opened it up, they had changed the marker to male.
‘I’m not making this post to fear-monger, or to create drama, or receive consolation. I don’t need it. But I do think it’s worth posting to note the reality of the situation and that it is actually happening. I was shocked. I just didn’t think it was actually going to happen.
President Donald Trump returned to power last month (Picture: Reuters) ‘I want to acknowledge my privilege, not only as a celebrity transwoman who is white and thin, and can adhere to contemporary beauty standards. I can participate in all of that and I pass, and it still happened.’
Schafer revealed her belief that the ‘agencies in charge of passports’ may now be ‘required to cross-reference birth certificates’.
She also voiced her fears of what could happen next, just weeks into Trump’s second term as President.
‘I do believe it is a direct result of the administration our country is currently operating under,’ she declared. ‘I guess I’m scared of the way this stuff slowly gets implemented.
Hunter insisted that she is not looking for pity (Picture: Getty) ‘Things just start happening, I think as we’ve seen in historical rises of fascism, and everything this new administration represents.
‘There’s a lot of talk and then things start happening. We start to normalize the circumstances we’re under. I feel it’s important to share that it’s not just talk, this is real and it’s happening.
‘No one, no matter their circumstance, no matter how wealthy, white or pretty or whatever is excluded. This is real.
‘I don’t give a f**k that they put an M on my passport. It doesn’t change really anything about me or my transness. However, it does make life a little harder.
She shared her fears about what could happen in future (Picture: WireImage) ‘I’m pretty sure it’s going to come along with having to out myself to border patrol agents much more often than I would like to or is really necessary.’
Schafer concluded: ‘Trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing, I am never going to stop being trans, a letter on a passport can’t change that. And f**k this administration.
‘I don’t really have an answer on what to do about this, but I feel it was important to share. This is real.’
Trump has sparked huge outrage with his policies (Picture: AP) Trump’s executive orders were made in the first few days of his presidency, and have continued to spark outrage from the public, as well as stars in Hollywood – Madonna and Selena Gomez are among those who have vocally opposed some his latest policies.
The administration recently announced plans to strip back rights for marginalized groups, with the former Apprentice host signing an order banning transgender people from serving and enlisting in the military.
‘It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female,’ a policy reads. ‘These sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.
‘Under my direction, the Executive Branch will enforce all sex-protective laws to promote this reality.’
The order also branded gender-affirming care ‘mutilation.’
