The plot of the season was built around the topics of loss and revenge. Already in the second episode, Joel was killed and the whole story turned around the consequences of this event. Ellie goes to Seattle to find the perpetrators, and on the way loses control of herself. In the aquarium, where enemies hide, she kills two close people Abby: her ex -boy Owen and her pregnant girlfriend Mel.
After that, Abby tracks the heroes and attacks them. Ellie Jessie’s friend is instantaneous, Tommy is seriously injured. Abby is again before Ellie and pronounces the phrase that sends to the last season: “I spared you, and in vain.” After that, she shoots – and the black screen.
But the finale does not end there. The series switches to Abby, showing how it lives in the WLF armed group. On the screen there is an inscription “Day One”, which clearly makes it clear that in the third season we are waiting for her story. This technique is an accurate adaptation of the game, where in the second half of the story goes from the other side of the conflict.
HBO has already confirmed the third season. Shooting start in the summer of 2025. Given the two -year pause between the first and second season, new series should be expected no earlier than 2027. The main characters will remain the same, and the plot will focus on the path of Abby after the murder of Joel and her own inner struggle.
