The reality TV star shared the sad news on the Thursday episode of his podcast Unashamed With the Robertson Family.
‘Tell you the truth, it hasn’t been good,’ Jase, 55, said of Phil, 78, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
When fans ask about how his parents are doing, the avid outdoorsman said he isn’t mincing words.
‘I’m just giving the blunt truth. I’ll say, “Not good,'” he explained.
Jase said he and his sibling were making Phil and their mom Kay, 77, ‘comfortable and we’re doing the best we can. So I think that’s just what you do.’
In the same episode, Jase revealed that the family were afraid they would lose Kay, who is recovering from a dangerous infection after a fall.
‘For my mom, it’s been a lot better this past week, because she was really not doing good,’ he told listeners.
‘She got an infection from a fall, from a cut that had happened earlier…she’s still in the hospital, but [now it’s] more rehab, physically, and trying to get her to eat.’
‘We were kinda dealing with the fact that maybe this is it,’ he explained, adding, ‘That’s what it seemed like in the moment. It seemed close there. So it was difficult.’
Of Kay’s injury, which happened in February, Jase said. ‘It was a horror show, it was severe. I was fixing to get up onstage and I see this picture of my mom, I was like, oh man. I was like, “Get her to the hospital. I gotta speak.”‘
The Duck Commander founder is a popular public speaker who often talks about his business and his Christian faith.
Jase is one of Phil and Kay’s four children who appeared alongside them on the hit A&E reality series.
Earlier this year, the network announced the family will return to the airwaves with Duck Dynasty: The Revival.
The new show was set to debut sometime in the summer.
Phil is not expected to be featured in the reboot due to his declining health.
Jase and his wife, Missy, recently shared the good news of their son Cole’s engagement to his fiancée Emlyn.
‘What an incredible achievement to watch our grown son choose a mate who encourages him, respects him and points him daily to Jesus,’ Missy wrote when she announced the news on social media March 23.
‘As a parent, this is what [Jase] and I have prayed for since our little Cole-Man was born,’ she continued.
‘We are so excited to add this precious girl to our family! We love you both so much!’
Sharing news about the proposal on his podcast, Jase said, ‘I realized my son is way more romantic than me, or pretty much any guy I know.’
