Cats have good hearing, but whether they have a musical taste is not easy.

As Catster writes, it turns out that cats can really enjoy music – but not at all the one we listen to. They have their own musical preferences, which are associated with the natural sounds and features of the world’s perception.
The authors of the scientific study published in the Journal of Applied Animal Behaviour Science, at one time tried to find out what would like to listen to cats from work. Psychologists from the University of Visconsin (USA) Megan Sevag and Charles Snowdown have suggested that cats would be more liked by the music created specifically for them. That is, to sound in the frequency range they naturally perceive, and to have a rhythm that resembles the sounds they face in their lives.
For example, for humans, music is often associated with heartbeat or walking, and for cats – with a murmur, kittens, or sounds they hear in nature.
To test this hypothesis, researchers invited musician David Teay. He created a series of unique compositions, taking into account cat hearing.
Then 47 domestic cats listened to two types of music – ordinary human songs and special cat tunes created.
The result was unambiguous: the animals were much more interested in “cat” music. They came closer to the sound source, rubbed against it and looked relaxed. The ordinary songs that people listen to cats have hardly reacted.
Interestingly, young and old cats responded to these tunes more actively than middle -aged animals.
Experts point out that not all sounds for the cat are equally pleasant. Loud and aggressive rhythms, such as heavy rock, can scare a cat or cause stress. Calm tunes with soft sounds – on the contrary, soothe and create a sense of security in the animals.
Because cats have extremely sensitive hearing, they perceive vibrations and high frequencies that we do not even notice. Therefore, the music that seems to us “just nice” can be too sharp or annoying for the cat.
Other interesting materials about petsAs UNIAN wrote, most domestic cats, even if they are well fed, are trying to snap food at the owner on the first occasion. Even if you do not annoy you, experts are advised not to allow such behavior.
