Interesting Engineering drew attention to this.
The novelty was named Povec C1 and is positioned as the world’s first electrochromic glasses designed for everyday use.
Unlike ordinary glasses with photochromic lenses, which darken themselves under the sun, here the user controls the darkening. To do this, it is enough to swipe your finger on the touch panel on the frame of the glasses.
The glasses use electrochromic technology – the same is used, for example, in cars with auto-dimming mirrors. When the current is applied, the lenses become darker, and when there is no current, they become lighter. Switching happens quickly and smoothly, without delays.
According to the developers, such glasses will be especially useful for athletes and active people – cyclists, runners and even tourists, who often have to go from bright light to shadow and back. Instead of changing glasses or squinting, you can simply adjust the dimming manually.
In addition, the glasses protect the eyes from ultraviolet rays, have a light and strong frame, and the built-in battery lasts for about a month of use. They are charged via USB-C.
The company plans to start sales in 2026. The price has not yet been finalized, but it is expected to be in the range of 250-350 dollars.
