Denise took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal she and Steve had parted ways in 2023Credit: Instagram Denise, 53, took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal her split from Steve.
Sharing the statement, Denise penned: “After much thought and consideration, Steve and I decided to separate two years ago as a couple.
“This decision was made with mutual respect and care for one another after many meaningful years together.
“We remain grateful for the time we shared and the wonderful children created,” she penned.
Denise continued: “We value the kindness and support from our family and friends over the last two years and our priority moving forward is maintaining a positive co-parenting relationship and focusing on the wellbeing of those we care about most.”
She signed off by saying: “We appreciate your understanding for privacy during this time as we move forward. Denise.”
The former athlete added the song Teardrop by Massive Attack to accompany the statement on her Instagram stories.
Last year, reports swirled that Steve had moved out of the family home in Buckinghamshire.
A source told Daily Mail last November: “Despite trying to make it work, Steve and Denise just found themselves drifting apart from one another.
“In the end they decided that breaking up was probably the most sensible thing to do.”
At the time, it was also reported that the pair no longer followed each other on social media.
Steve married athlete Denise Lewis in 2006 and the couple resided together in Buckinghamshire with their children.
The couple met back in 2000 through mutual friends at the Brit Awards.
Although they didn’t get together straight away, as Denise was still married to her first husband Patrick Stevens.
But love blossomed when they met again, as Denise told the Mirror back in 2006: “I was still with Patrick when I first met Steve, then we met again more recently and it was sort of love at second sight.”
The couple share three sons, Ryan, Kane, and Troy.
Both also have children from previous relationship as Steve has a son called Joe while Denise has daughter, Lauren.
Steve is the son of the legendary late comedian and game show host Tom O’Connor, who sadly passed away in July 2021 at the age of 81.
Steve used to be the manager of Neneh Cherry, Madness and All Saints, but now works as a property developer.
However, he retains some high profile clients and even worked with One Direction singer Liam Payne up until his death.
