Barbie and Sex Education actor Connor Swindells has joined the all-star ensemble cast of The Entertainment System Is Down, the new dark satire from Triangle of Sadness director Ruben Östlund.

The Swedish helmer has already lined up a crowd of A-lists for the feature, including Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Keanu Reeves, Nicholas Braun, Samantha Morton, and Tobias Menzies.

Alongside Swindells, new additions to the Entertainment System cast include Daniel Webber (The Punisher), Wayne Blair (The New Boy), Dan Wyllie (Animal Kingdom), Lindsay Duncan (Birdman), Allan Corduner (Defiance), Sofia Tjelta Sydness (Ida Takes Charge), Erin Ainsworth (Napoleon), Myles Kamwendo (Boarders), Sanna Sundqvist (Call Mom!), Tea Stjärne (Barracuda Queens), and Swedish singer/songwriter Benjamin Ingrosso.

The feature is set on a long-haul flight between England and Australia. When the entertainment system fails, passengers are forced to face the horror of being bored and conflicts — personal and political — bubble to the surface.

Östlund has begun principal photography on Entertainment System in Budapest. The film is set to shoot over 70 days through May of this year. The producers purchased a retired Boeing 747 specifically for the project. The Entertainment System is Down will mark Östlund’s second English-language film after Triangle, which was a cross-over hit, grossing more than $26 million worldwide and scoring three Oscar nominations, including for best picture. Triangle of Sadness also won the Palme d’Or in Cannes, a two-peat for Östlund, who also took Cannes’ top honor in 2017 for The Square.

The Coproduction Office is handling world sales to Entertainment System. A24 pre-bought U.S. rights to the film in an eight-figure deal in Cannes last year.

The Entertainment System is Down is produced by Plattform Produktion (Sweden) with Essential Films (Germany) and Parisienne de Production (France). Co-producers are BBC Film, Film i Väst, Sveriges Television, ZDF/ARTE, ARTE France Cinéma, SF Studios, Eye Eye Pictures (Norway), Paloma Productions (Denmark). The film is financed by the Swedish Film Institute, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA), the Norwegian Film Institute, the Danish Film Institute, with the participation of Canal+, Disney+ and ARTE France and with the support of Creative Europe MEDIA.
