The Thor star, 41, revealed he found it confronting to be co-starring alongside the renowned actress.
‘I’ve admired Halle’s work for years, and I was very intimidated to sit opposite her within the scene and try not just be in awe of what she was doing,’ Chris told E! News.
He added Halle quickly put him at ease, and said he was delighted to be sharing the screen with the esteemed Monster’s Ball actress.
‘People bring out not just the best in you, but also a comfort level where it does feel like it’s a place to explore and to examine different ideas, try different things,’ he said.
‘That was the experience. I loved every second of it.’
Meanwhile, Halle, 58, said she enjoyed working with Chris because he behaved like a true gentleman on set.
‘He stood up for me in a moment in our movie. I instantly knew right then I’m going to follow this guy, be a fan of this guy for the rest of my life because he stood up for a woman,’ she said.
In early October, Halle was revealed by Deadline to be in negotiations to join the movie adaptation of Don Winslow’s book Crime 101, which was published in 2021.
Bart Layton is directing the film, which will be a follow-up to his 2018 crime/thriller American Animals.
In addition to Halle and Chris, Irish actor Barry Keoghan will also star in the project.
Winslow’s narrative follows organised jewellery thefts happening along the Pacific Coast, which law enforcement officials have traced to Colombian cartels.
However, one detective in particular discovers a different lead, and hones in on one suspect.
In addition to helming the film, Layton wrote the script with help from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy screenwriter Peter Straughan.
Shane Salerno of Story Factory, Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan of Working Title, plus Dimitri Doganis, Derrin Schlesinger and Layton (RAW) serve as producer, according to Deadline.
Pedro Pascal was in conversations to join the cast last year but could not accept the role due to scheduling conflicts.
Chris also has a producer credit along with his business partner Ben Grayson.
Halle most most recently appeared in The Union, Netflix’s action/thriller with Mark Wahlberg.
She runs the production company HalleHolly, which has produced the Lionsgate thriller Never Let Go, and will soon begin work on Maude Vs. Maude and The Process.
