Meek’s accident occurred Dec. 19 in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, and he “sustained blunt force injuries after falling to the road from a moving vehicle,” Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said to local news outlet AL.com. He was taken to a local hospital but died “peacefully” on Saturday, according to an obituary posted on Searcy Funeral Homes’ website.
“Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” read a post on Meek’s Instagram account. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”
A sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, he was a member of the Vestavia Hills Rebel Football Team. According to the obituary, he was also passionate about his faith; The Simpsons, having binged all 36 seasons of the series; his close friends; water sports; anything in the woods; traveling; and acting.
Meek appeared in a handful of minor roles in TV and short films before nabbing the role of Young Baby Driver in Edgar Wright’s 2010 action comedy about a getaway driver tied up with a crime boss and a heist gone wrong. The movie was a critical and box office hit that helped push Meek’s career forward. He notched other credits on the network series MacGyver, Legacies and Found.
Hudson is survived by his parents, Derek Firth Meek and Lani Wells Meek; his older brother, Tucker Firth Meek; and his grandmothers, Margaret Green Meek and Faye Searcy Wells. A celebration of life service will be held for Meek on Dec. 28 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama.
