So a big-name spin-off from one of the best shows of the decade was greeted with trepidation by fans.
The show we didn’t need and no one demanded — but tonight we got it.
And for the first, ooh, minute of The Celebrity Traitors I was still unsure.
Then we were confronted with Alan Carr — trying to look and sound villainous over a mai tai cocktail — saying: “Maybe I have got a dark side.”
And I knew it was all going to be OK. If he was there alone I’d watch but there are genuine stars.
We lose the mystery of trying to suss out total strangers but Claudia laps up the low-level sadism.
And who knew Tom Daley is so competitive. (You know, apart from the diving stuff) or that capable Clare Balding is as much use as a cocktail umbrella in a storm.
I was soon a convert to the idea of a show full of famous contestants. Strictly should try it.
