Berlinale Series Market to Screen Spanish Crime, Kiwi Comedy, and Korean Apocalypse Show

The Berlinale Series Market has unveiled its 2025 lineup, featuring 17 international series under its Market Selects banner.

The productions, from 13 countries, range geographically from Brazil to South Africa to New Zealand and in genres from crime thrillers to biopics to dark comedies (check out the full line-up below). Among the higher-profile titles are the Australian/U.S. series Sunny Nights, starring Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth, Nebraska) and D’Arcy Carden (Barry, The Good Place) as an American brother and sister who head to Sydney to start up a spray tan business only to get caught up in the city’s criminal underworld; and Byun Seung-Min’s Concrete Utopia, a series spin-off of his 2023 hit action film set in a post-apocalyptic world after a catastrophic earthquake.

The small-screen industry event runs Feb. 16-19 as part of the Berlin Film Festival‘s European Film Market (EFM). The Market Selects projects will screen in theaters at Berlin‘s CinemaxX and the EFM’s Gropius Bau location.

Alongside the screenings, the EFM will host the 11th edition of its Co-Pro Series pitch event, with ten new projects looking for production partners. Notable entries include The Best of Families from Borgen writer Maja Jul Larsen and director Charlotte Sieling and Miami Wildlife, with Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardener) attached to direct. Emmy-nominated director Jennifer Fox (The Tale) will be in Berlin to pitch Ruth’s Ghosts, a dystopian story about abortion rights; a new Canadian project, Lucy. Maud. will delve into the life story of beloved Canadian author L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables) and New Zealand project Sk8 or Die, following the story of the legendary barefoot skateboarder Lee Ralph, will be looking for backers.

Spain, as the EFM’s Country in Focus, will present four series in development to potential co-producers.

As Espias (Broken Spies) – Portugal, Poland The world is at war. While Portugal seems like a quiet oasis on the edge of the Atlantic, its glamorous casinos, hotels, and secret hideouts become the stage for a network of daring women spies, exchanging vital information that could turn the tide of the conflict.

Asuntos Internos (Internal Affairs) – Spain Clara, one of the first female police officers in Spain, starts her first post in a dangerous Madrid neighborhood. She uncovers a heroin trafficking network and, with the help of two women affected by the drug issue, risks her life to expose it.

Corbeaux (Crows) – Canada A series of gruesome murders shakes the city. Gabrielle, a young rebellious investigator newly settled in the city’s surrounding area, must team up with Clémence, a veteran investigator on the verge of retirement, to solve these murders.

Heajastallan – Bryllupsfesten (Heajastallan – A Sámi Wedding) – Norway Garen, at the bottom of her Sámi community’s hierarchy, sees her son’s upcoming wedding as a chance to lift her status. But can she unite her dysfunctional siblings to plan the perfect traditional Sámi celebration or will it just be a countdown to disaster?

Honor (Your Honor) – Spain In this adaptation of the Israeli series Kvodo, Judge Daniel Romero’s son Alex accidentally kills a motorist, then panics and flees the scene. When the victim turns out to be the son of a dangerous gangster, Romero decides to cover up the crime, risking everything to protect his son.

Konkeuriteu Maket (Concrete Market) – South Korea In a post-apocalyptic world from a catastrophic earthquake, one apartment building that didn’t collapse becomes a bartering market.
