BAFTA Film Awards 2026: ‘One Battle After Another’ Leads Longlists, Ahead of ‘Hamnet’ and ‘Sinners’

With awards season heating up, BAFTA has thrown in its two cents with strong showings for One Battle After Another, Hamnetand Sinners on their 2026 Film Awards longlists.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s political thriller came out on top with 16 mentions on the longlists, shortly followed by Chloé Zhao’s Shakespearean heartbreaker Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s slick vampire film Sinners with 14 apiece.

Following closely behind them was Josh Safdie’s wild ping-pong caper Marty Supreme (13), Yorgos Lanthimos’ black comedy Bugonia (12) and Guillermo del Toro’s gothic classic Frankenstein (12). Both Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value and Jon M. Chu’s Wicked: For Good also scored high on the longlists, appearing eight times each. Apart from Wickedthey’re all in contention for best film, as is The Ballad of Wallis Island, Nuremberg and I Swear.

All of the aforementioned filmmakers — bar Chu — are up for best director with Hikari for Rental FamilyKathryn Bigelow for A House of DynamiteLynne Ramsay for Die My Loveand Kaouther Ben Hania for The Voice of Hind Rajab.

Among those named in the performance awards categories are Jessie Buckley, Cynthia Erivo, Emma Stone, Renate Reinsve, and Chase Infiniti, as well as Rose Bryne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick YouKate Hudson for Song Sung BlueTessa Thompson for HeddaJennifer Lawrence for Die My Loveand Andrea Riseborough for Dragonfly.

Critics’ Choice Award winner Timothée Chalamet makes the longlist for leading actor alongside Michael B. Jordan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jesse Plemons. Rounding out that list is Robert Aramayo for I SwearRussell Crowe for NurembergJoel Edgerton for Train DreamsEthan Hawke for Blue MoonHarry Melling for Pillionand Cillian Murphy for steve.

In the supporting actress category, the list is whittled down to: Odessa A’zion (Marty Supreme), Brenda Blethyn (Dragonfly), Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), Amy Madigan (Weapons), Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners), Carey Mulligan (The Ballad of Wallis Island), Gwyneth Paltrow (Marty Supreme), Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another), and Emily Watson (Hamnet).

And in contention on the supporting actor longlist is Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another), Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Delroy Lindo (Sinners), Paul Mescal (Hamnet), Peter Mullan (I Swear), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another), Adam Sandler (Jay Kelly), Andrew Scott (Blue Moon), Alexander Skarsgård, (Pillion), and Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value).

The BAFTA ceremony, hosted by Scottish actor-presenter Alan Cumming on Sunday, Feb. 22 at London’s Royal Festival Hall, is the most prestigious of the UK’s film and television awards calendar and is considered a considerable marker for Oscar hopefuls.

The next round of voting, to determine the nominations, will take place between Jan. 9-20.
