According to Lynch, the image was generated by a neural network based on a real photo in order not to reveal the identity of the source inside the company.
Visually, the controller is almost no different from the render, which disappeared due to the fault of Valve itself at the end of 2024. In the photo, you can see a slightly revised shape of the case, new covers on the handles and a more compact arrangement of buttons.
The main innovation, according to rumors, are sensors that determine the distance from the player’s hands to the grips, similar to the Valve Index controllers, only without full-fledged finger tracking. This will allow the device to record the moment when the player picks up the controller, as well as adjust the vibration and response for specific actions.
According to Lynch, Valve is now in the final stages of preparation for the announcement, and the first prototypes are already being tested by developers within the company.
The controller itself is rumored to be simply called the Steam Controller, without the deuce in the name.
Earlier we told that a Steam Deck prototype was bought for $3,000 and given to a blogger to take it apart. It turned out that the internal structure of the laptop has almost not changed, but the performance of the prototype is very weak.
