Adam Sandler is dredging up some cringeworthy memories while visiting David Letterman’s Emmy-winning Netflix series.

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman returns for a special episode featuring a conversation with Adam Sandler that begins streaming Dec. 1. The series has been picked up through season seven and is set to launch its sixth season later in December.

Sandler will discuss his trajectory from stand-up comedy to Saturday Night Live to lead an array of popular films. The actor has earned acclaim for his role opposite George Clooney in director Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kellywhich is set to hit the streamer Dec. 5.

“I did this one show in Boston, and my dad and brother came to see it, and I ate it so hard in front of my dad, and I hated that,” Sandler tells Letterman in a preview clip about his early years as a teenage stand-up comic.

Sandler went on to recall the awkward moment right after he had left the stage: “I turn around, and the emcee goes — and I was 17 — he says, ‘Were you the class clown in school?’ And I go, ‘Yeah.’ And he goes, ‘Stick with that.’ And the place goes (loud cheers).”

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction has earned seven Emmy nominations, including a win for best hosted nonfiction series or special in 2024. Previous guests have included Barack Obama, Volodymyr Zelensky, Tina Fey, Miley Cyrus, Robert Downey Jr., Dave Chappelle and Billie Eilish.

The series hails from Jax Media and Worldwide Pants, Inc., and producers include Tommy Alter, John Nemeth and Hunter Speese for Jax Media/Imagine Entertainment. Executive producing are Tom Keaney and Mary Barclay for Worldwide Pants, alongside Justin Wilkes, Michael Steed, Isabel Richardson and Yolanda T. Cochran for Jax Media/Imagine Entertainment. Steed directed the special episode.

Sandler has a longstanding relationship with Netflix. His comedy feature Happy Gilmore 2 set an opening weekend record when it debuted on the streamer earlier this year.

“We couldn’t be happier,” Sandler previously told The Hollywood Reporter about the response to Happy Gilmore 2. “It’s something that I can’t describe. Just walking down the street, hearing people talk about it even before it came out — we were like, something fun is going on here.”
